FAQ
What does this shop sell?
This shop sells Linux distributions (also known as "distros") burned onto disks and packaged into jewel cases and decorated with our unique artwork designs.
Where are you based?
We are based in the UK, so people ordering from there will get cheaper postage costs ;)
Why should I buy [insert name here] from you? Why can't I just download it off [insert distribution's website]?
Most likely what you'll have to do is wait around 30 mins on an average broadband connection (400kbs - 500kbs) and then burn it onto an unprofessional CD which will probably be labeled with a CD pen with a scribbled "Ubuntu" on it...and no-where to store it. You may have a few CD cases or CD booklets lying around, but that's not organised is it? You'll want to install Ubuntu and you'll be scrounging around piles and piles of disks (many Linux users do something called "distro hopping" which basically means not being able to decide which Linux distribution to choose. This will mean burning a lot of disks!). When you eventually find it, it could be scratched, you might have labeled it badly and you won't know what version/architecture it is! With our professionally labeled disks and artwork, you'll be sure to know what version and architecture it's for.
Another reason to buy from us is if you have a very slow (dial-up) internet connection. It will take hours to download a 700MB ISO file...and you may not want to have to do that.
Of course you can download your distribution of choice from their website, and burn it yourself if you really want to, but we just make life easier for you by pre-packaging your distribution for you.
Can I use [insert distribution here] on as many computers as I want?
Yes! Most Linux distros (except commercial ones, but we don't sell them) let you do whatever you want to do with them. Copy, change and pass them onto your friends and family! Linux doesn't restrict you to one computer.
Do you own [insert distribution here]?
No. Linux distributions are not owned by us, we just resell them.
What's the difference between the CD and DVD versions?
The CD version usually includes only one desktop environment, and can be used in virtually any CD drive. Some products may have more than one CD, and the number will be specified in the description.
The DVD version normally includes the three major desktop environments: KDE, GNOME and Xfce. They cannot be used in all drives. To see if your drive is compatible, look for the DVD-ROM logo.
